A Corporation is an infra communication service provider engaged in next generation integrated communication service. Based on 20,000 km optical communication network, they provide nationwide service including exclusive line, internet access service and internet phone to mobile communication service providers and general corporations. They introduced SG2024 to have a stable network construction for best customer service and competitiveness.
Background
• Investment cost reduction and stable network service
A Corporation provides various lines and telephone service through 51 communication service provides in the country. So, it is crucial for them to have stable network. However, they had no actual measurement to prevent harmful traffic in subscription. Such subscription harmful traffic was out of control to A Corporation which required them to have control system to block traffic and to monitor access level condition. They decided to introduce SG2024 for network resource monitoring while keeping closest access level with the customer. They could provide stable network service without expensive equipment.
Details of introduction
• High evaluation for investment cost reduction and harmful traffic prevention capacity
A Corporation reviewed to introduce harmful traffic blocking solution from early 2007 onward. The harmful traffic in the subscription group was hard to block and was a serious threat as it consumed bandwidth of whole network. And as internet phone was introduced to a great deal, harmful traffic had a direct influence on service i.e. the speech quality.
Accordingly they considered two options: one is to secure bandwidth, the other is to block harmful traffic.
First, the secure of bandwidth to cope with harmful traffic required large size L3 switch. But, it was not a fundamental measurement as it required huge investment.
Second was to improve availability of bandwidth by blocking harmful traffic. For this purpose, they reviewed SG2024. The introduction is complete by replacing L2 switch and it equips real-time reaction against zero-day attack without intervention of the administration. Those were merits for introducing SG2024.
A Corporation had many points of harmful traffic as they had many customers. Thus, it is impossible to respond every problem properly. SG2024 provides active prevention/clearance which is also good for cost reduction. Thus, A Corporation decided to introduce SG2024 at the point that is connected to customers.

To prvent network trouble by harmful traffic in part of customer terminal, the switches connected to customer terminal from the communication company were replaced to SG2024. And VNM was installed at the Seoul main center to carry out integrated network management of SG2024.

The case is a very successful case in terms of critical harmful traffic prevention and new development of profit model. Due to the character of ISP business, it is impossible to prevent any harmful traffic by controlling customer PCs. Accordingly, a solution to block harmful traffic introduction to the network as required. SG2024 solved such problem and network stability was secured. Thus, the company could lay a foundation to provide stable VOIP service. Smart protection function of SG2024 played an important role in stable service operation. Based on stable network, A Corporation attempted an active marketing with security functioned premium service to increase customers with service launching. Before the premium service, A Corporation suffered continual withdrawal customers by large ISPs like B Telecom, C Telecom and D Telecom and also by weak brand image. It had worst condition of reducing down to 454 from 522. However, when they began premium service in March 2008, they came to have 537 customer companies by securing 85 new customers in 8 months. And they could increase service charge by 20~30% which contributed to the profitability of the company.
With stable network construction with low budget, and reduction of equipment/line cost, A Corporation could improve profitability to a great extent by the introduction of SG2024. A Corporation has continued to introduce SG2024.
